Titanic Party
| This is the PartyOz guide to the perfect Titanic Party with all the ettiquette, ideas, costumes and party games. |
Here’s some advice and tips for holding a Titanic Party that your guests will surely love.
Invitations
Make invitations that have a pristine and formal look to them, then ruin them by soaking them in water for a waterlogged appearance!

You can even glue seashells to the invitations for extra fun.
Another fun idea is to make invitations that are designed to look like old passports. You can also give these a waterlogged appearance and add a bit of wear and tear to them for extra effect.
Costume Suggestions
A fun way to dress for this party is to wear old clothing that has a period look to it. You can add to the fun by draping yourself in fake seaweed or attaching fake starfish and barnacles to your costume.
Try buying old clothes from an opportunity shop and gluing seashells to the clothing. Add a few rips and tears for a dishevelled look.
Suggest different themes for the night when you send invitations. These can include many things such as guests, stewards, the captain, the ship’s band and more.
Decorations
To set the mood and feel for the Titanic, try and decide whether you’ll decorate for before or after the great disaster.
When the guests arrive, have them enter the house along a gangway.
You can lay down planks that lead to the doorway or you can simply use cardboard and paint it to look like planks. Use small poles and rope to line the entrance as they’re making their way aboard.
Scatter blue cellophane along the walkway to make water. You could even make cut-outs of fish to lay across the cellophane or make shark fins out of cardboard to have rising from the water.
Cut the centre out of paper plates to make Porthole windows to place on the walls. You could even use actual pictures of the sea to add to the mood.
Make different areas throughout the house such as an observation deck, a lounge bar or even a casino room where the guests can play games.
For a disastrous look, try setting a formal and elegant look to the house then simply throw it into disarray. Drape fake seaweed made from green cellophane over the furniture and walls.
Scatter cushions and upturn chairs, leave candlesticks on the table that have been knocked over. You could arrange food on a tablecloth that is stained with wine and loose cutlery.
Food Suggestions
Make a large Meringue in the shape of an iceberg. You can set it in a plate surrounded by blue cellophane and even have a toy ship colliding into it.
Serve food that’s in disarray such as salad bowls that are spilling over the side or a lopsided cake for example.
Grilled fish and a formal dinner would suit the mood, neatly presented or otherwise.
Try setting out printed menus along the table and give them a waterlogged appearance like the invitations.
For inspiration try using the following films and themes:
Titanic
The Poseidon Adventure
The Perfect Storm
Great Disasters
The Hindenburg
Readers Comments
Fantastic idea! I told my friends about it and we actually used spinach leaves, sewn on our clothes for seaweed (we put clear tape on it first and it didn’t tear). Best part was messing up the house for the party. Loved it! (despite cleaning up the next day)
