St Patricks Day
| This is the PartyOz guide to the perfect St Patrick's Day Party with all the ettiquette, ideas, costumes and party games. |
Celebrate St Patrick’s Day till you’re green in the face!
The St Patrick’s Day Parade is the most obvious way to make the most of this day.
If you can’t get to a parade, however, have a get-together with friends or use a party as a meeting point for friends, following the parade.
Invitations
Green invites are a must for a St Patrick’s Day party, of course!
An easy way to make some is to buy green printing paper and cut the sheets into the shape of four leaf clovers.
It’s easiest to trace the shape on a sheet of paper and cut several sheets at a time following the outline.
An easy alternative is to design an invite and simply print it out on green paper. You could decorate it afterwards using some glue and green glitter.
Costume Suggestions
Dressing for St Patrick’s Day is more than easy! Simply wear as much green as you can!
If you don’t have enough green clothes for the day, and easy way to find some is to put a day aside to shop around at Opportunity shops or ask friends if they have green clothes you could borrow.
Try a party supplies or costume shop to see if they have green hair spray. There are many types that easily wash out so they’re perfect for the day.
Decorations
As with costumes, St Patrick’s Day is all about GREEN!
Head to a party supplies store and buy as many green balloons and streamers as you can. Many party shops also sell decorations and banners that are specifically for St Patrick’s Day.
Party supplies stores might also carry green novelties such as glasses, hats and ties. If they do, you might think about getting some for guests who break the sacred rule and turn up without wearing green.
Food Suggestions
Have green food dye on hand to add to beverages like Beer, or lime flavoured lemonade for guests who aren’t drinking alcohol.
There are many cocktails that can be made using green liqueurs such as Midori and more. Offer Bailey’s Irish Cream to the guests, keeping in line with the Irish theme.
Try to serve as much green food as possible, snacks like pistachio nuts would be good. You could also serve Avocado dip and zucchini bread.
Make cupcakes that are completely green and leave them out for the guests.
History
Saint Patrick’s Day is held in honour of St Patrick, the Patron Saint of Ireland. Although it is originally an Irish festival – one that lasts for 5 days - it is an event that has been carried to many parts of the globe, celebrated by expatriates of Ireland and others alike.
St Patrick is well known in Irish mythology as having driven the snakes out of Ireland, although it’s believed that the snakes were purely metaphorical – the serpents are rumoured to be symbolic of either the druids of St Patricks time or wickedness in general.
Readers Comments
This was the first time I’d had a St Patrick’s party. Couldn’t be simpler but it was good for the extra advice. Few things I wouldn’t have thought of. Gotta love green beer! Happy St Pat’s day people!
