Viking Party
| This is the PartyOz guide to the perfect Viking Party with all the ettiquette, ideas, costumes and party games. |
Pillage and plunder yourself some fun with a Viking Party! Here’s some advice and tips for holding a party that your guests will surely love.

Costume Suggestions
A Viking costume can include horned helmets, braided hair and long, straggly beards.
Horned helmets are a popular item from costume and party shops. Try to find one and add to the look by making clothing using fake fur from a fabric shop.
You could also use fake fur to make a cloak. Scraps of the material can be useful if you wrap them around a pair of boots.
Buy a toy axe or sword from a costume or part supplies shop, or make your own using cardboard and covering it in foil.
Decorations
Give the house the appearance of a Viking hut by laying torn cloth across the floor. Hang torn cloth in the doorways also.
You could try giving the walls the look of thatched wood by hanging bamboo blinds on them. Tie dried branches to them beforehand to give the appearance of thick sticks holding the whole place together.
Food Suggestions
Serve an enormous meal of roasted meats. Large drumsticks, steaks and baked potatoes would be perfect.
Offer wine in large jugs and brush them lightly with brown paint for an earthy look. See if you can find goblet to use instead of glasses.
Arrange several tables together, end to end, to make an eating area fit for a Viking banquet hall.
Games & Activities
Pillaging Contest:
Have a treasure hunt with a twist by hoarding a large number of gifts or prizes in the centre of the yard. Wrap small gifts in parcels and make the largest pile you can.
Set two lines on the ground, equal distance apart from the prizes in the centre.
Have the guests split up into two teams and wait by the lines to each side.
At the sound of a whistle each team member races to the treasure hoard and carries a parcel back to their line.
Once they’ve crossed the line another team member can race across for another prize.
See which team can grab the most treasure before the whistle blows again.
For inspiration try using the following films and themes:
Erik the Viking
Gladiatress
Conan the Barbarian
Readers Comments
This was cool. A friend suggested it because he does the whole medieval re-enactment thing. It was his idea but he helped me plan the party and said this site was good for ideas. Nice one!
