Grab a stick, some friends and have fun with a Piñata Party! Here’s some advice and tips for holding a Piñata Party that your guests will surely love.
If you don't know what a pinata is, its made of papier-mache to form the shape of popular and traditional characters [animals] and then filled with sweets, lollies and small toys.
How to Play a Pinata Game?
The game is played by hanging the piñata by a rope from a tree branch, clothes line or beam and each player takes it in turns while blindfolded to hit the piñata with a stick until it cracks open. Once the piñata is broken open, everyone shares the treats inside the pinata.
Invitations
Use water bomb balloons and paper mache to make small piñatas. Send invitations inside the piñatas so that guests have to rip them open.
Costume Suggestions
A Mexican theme is ideal for a piñata party. Have the guests dress up in sombreros and ponchos. Guests could even arrive dressed as piñatas, using bright paper and cloth.
Decorations
Piñatas are a festive, colourful party treat so decorate the house accordingly. Use lots of bright balloons and streamers, as many as you can get!
Food Suggestions
Set out a bowl of boiled eggs that are left in the shell. You could paint each egg to look like a different animal piñata.
Make small piñatas using paper mache covered water balloons. Fill them with lollies and chocolates to give to each guest.
Serve the food in small broken piñatas, instead of plates. You could even decorate bowls in crepe paper to achieve the same look.
Offer food with a Mexican feel such as nachos and tacos, burritos and bean dip.
Games & Activities
Try and find the largest piñata you can!
You could also try putting a rope across the yard and hanging as many piñatas from it as possible.
A fun idea would be to have an enormous Soccer Ball piñata that the guests can kick about the yard until it breaks!
Readers Comments
Thanks for the advice. My daughter’s party was a blast. She had fun making the small piñatas for the invites. We put a chocolate in each one too, to sweeten the deal. Her friends had a really good time.
